Although I feel it was necessary for shipping, it’s not necessary to keep the screws there. There was a screw holding the laser tube compartment shut as well as the control panel compartment. Fan Sits Loosely Leaning Back – I removed the vent duct for the picture There is another model (minor upgrade) that provides an aquarium air pump which blows air onto the work piece and prevents smoke from interrupting the laser path. It also helps the laser to cut without interference from smoke. It’s only to remove smoke and avoid poisoning everyone in the same room. I feel like it’s a popular misconception that this fan was provided for cooling the laser or mirrors. I have no idea why they thought this was acceptable. As a designer if I couldn’t have found another fan that fits, I probably would have increased the height of the laser cutter. I’ve seen others like this so I guess it’s normal although unsightly. The fan actually sits slightly above the top and leans back. Next I notice the exhaust fan is too tall for the laser cutter. It was not off to a good start Mangled Vent Duct It’s still perfectly functional but it’s not a good sign to see something bent and crammed carelessly into your new toy. That being said click below to read on.įirst of all, I open the laser cutter to find my vent duct completely bent. A laser cutter is a powerful and dangerous tool and it’s not a toy. I’m writing from my experience only and I’m not responsible for any damage you cause with information you’ve read here or anywhere else. Understandably, this is going to frustrate people who shelled out a few hundred dollars to purchase this machine so I figured I’d be the one to do a write up and potentially save you some headache from my experience. You might see some reviews or complaints but there is very little information about its operation or maintenance. Try to search online about the” 40W Laser Cutter”, “Chinese laser cutter”, “eBay Laser Cutter” or “K40 Laser Cutter” for information. Being that I’m a mechanical engineer who is used to accurate documentation, this is just deplorable. In addition, the pictures in the manual were inaccurate and there were various ports/connections in the manual that just were not on my model. The manual (at least the one I received) is written in poorly translated English and it really just skips over many important functions of the laser cutter. Overall this is a good machine but it leaves a lot to be desired and the quality control is certainly lacking. It’s relatively new and developing rapidly.I’ve had my 40W Laser Cutter for just over three months now and I feel that I’ve got a good grasp on how it operates. One other piece of software you might want to try out is meerk40t. In other words, the other solutions are bad particularly in the light of LightBurn’s ascension. To me this is the main reason why the cycle time for LightBurn is so much faster than other solutions. LightBurn is unique in that it combines all 3 of these functions into one streamlined platform. They’re both designed to take in an existing design, setup the minimal configurations for burning, and run the job.Ī lot of laser workflows traditionally had these disjointed design->laser configuration->execute job patterns. One thing to remember about k40whisperer is that it wasn’t intended to provide any design capability. As design software I find it a little clunky but incredibly powerful and flexible. It’s design software that people have extended to be able to do some basic laser control. Inkscape isn’t really laser control software to be fair.
